The record, not just the removal

The pile is the easy half.

Anybody with a truck can make material disappear. What you are actually buying is the document that says where it went, made out to the business that generated it.

Why it matters
Our goal is to protect the environment and to help generators of these spent products avoid fines for improper disposal of these items.

Gem City Recycling

Responsibility for waste follows the business that generated it. That is why the record matters as much as the removal: the pickup ends the pile, the certificate ends the exposure.

The villain here is a condition, not a person: improper disposal, and the fines that follow it.

What you receive

Three things come back.

Every line below is on their own record of what they provide. Nothing has been added to make the list longer.

Certificate of Recycling

The document that says the material was recycled and names where it went. It is the piece an inspector or an auditor actually wants to see.

Disposal paperwork for the file

The proper paperwork and certificates verifying environmentally responsible disposal, made out to the business that generated the material.

Electronic copies

We take care of the paperwork and make sure you have electronic copies, so the record is not one sheet of paper in one binder.

How it works

Three steps. Two of them are ours.

Step 1

Tell us what you have

Call, or send a photo of the pile. Rough counts are fine. We will tell you what we take and what we do not.

Step 2

We bring the boxes and haul it

DOT-approved containers arrive sized for your material. We pack it, load it, and transport it to a registered recycling facility.

Step 3

You get your certificate

Your Certificate of Recycling and disposal paperwork come back to you electronically, ready to file and ready to show.

The interior of a recycling processing facility
Gem City collects and transports. The processing facilities are separate registered operations, and the certificate names where the material was delivered. This photograph is a generated illustration of a processing facility, not a Gem City property.
Where it ends up

We collect and transport. Processing happens at a registered facility.

We offer you peace of mind as we transport all universal wastes to a registered recycling facility.

Why a buyer picks them

Four things that are already on the record.

DOT-approved containers, brought to you

We provide DOT-approved boxes and containers for packing lamps, ballasts, and batteries for shipment. You are not sourcing packaging or guessing at it.

Paperwork that closes the loop

You get the proper paperwork and certificates verifying environmentally responsible disposal, including a Certificate of Recycling, with electronic copies for your file.

A registered facility at the end of it

Everything we collect is transported to a registered recycling facility. That is the whole point of the certificate: it names where the material went.

People who will answer the question

We have knowledgeable staff to help with all your environmental recycling questions. Call and ask before you have a problem, not after.

Straight answers

Before you call.

How small a pickup will you do?
Call and ask. A single box of tubes from one office is a different job from a lighting retrofit across a campus, and both are jobs. If it is too small to be worth a truck, we will say so and tell you what to do instead.
What does it cost?
It depends on what it is, how much of it there is, and where you are. Send a pickup request and we will talk the job through with you.
Do I get proof it was handled properly?
Yes. That is the deliverable. You get a Certificate of Recycling and the disposal paperwork electronically, naming where the material went.
How do I know if my ballasts have PCBs?
If the fixture was installed before 1979 and the ballast is original, assume yes until the label says otherwise. Send a photo of the label and we will tell you.
Can you handle a whole building at once?
Yes. Lighting retrofits and office cleanouts are the normal shape of this work. Tell us the schedule and we will work to it.
What will you not take?
Ask before you assume. Some material needs a licensed hazardous-waste route rather than the universal-waste route, and we would rather point you to the right one than collect something we should not.
We offer you peace of mind

Get the certificate in the file.

Tell us what you have. Rough counts are fine, and a photo of the pile is fine.
